15th National and International Meeting of DXers and Shortwave Listeners

What is this Meeting?

This is the annual get-together for all radio enthusiasts:  DXers, radio experimenters, shortwave listeners, associations, groups, clubs and radio listeners in general; from Mexico and any part of the world, as well as representatives of international and local radio stations.

But besides this, we are celebrating 15 YEARS!!!! of meetings as DXers and radio clubs in Mexico.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Historical information:

In the year 1995 the First National Meeting of DX Clubs formally took place in Mexico.  This came about at the urging of Professor Ivan Lopez Alegria, who organized with great satisfaction the first event in the city of Tepic, Nayarit State, and with it the beginning of this historic period that has brought us with the 1009 Edition a total of 15 years of meetings of enthusiasts who listen to the world and tune in the world by means of the Hertzian waves, practicing world band radio listening and practicing the exciting hobby/science that is DXing.

Who are the organizers?

For this 2009 edition, the hosts and organizers are the local DXers of the Morelos DX Club and members of the Mexico DX Club, a Yahoo group, friends, acquaintences and others who love and have a passion for radio!!!

Who is it for?

Anyone who is a radio enthusiast; not only DXers, but also ordinary radio listeners, students, telecommunications workers, engineers,  docentes, radio announcers and producers, technicians, people with or without nowledge of the subject.

ALL ARE WELCOME!

What are the objectives?

  • Get people together with a common denominator:  Radio listening and DXing.

  • Promote radio listening on shortwave (SW), which is unknown by many people in our country, and which is  vast source of information about the world.

  • As a consequence, promote the hobby of DXing, an educational, cultural and instructive "science hobby."

  • Get stations closer to their listeners, establishing real and personal communication between each:  appreciating the radio listener and his suggestions in order to improve the service.  Exchange information between participants and DXers, and promote friendship and comradery.

  • Create a public forum.

  • Analyze the contemporary phenomena of telecommunciations, not only radio and its future; Internet, satellite, TV, VHF, UHF, AM, FM, LW, shortwave, etc., etc.

  • DXing, DXing and more DXing.

What to bring to the event?

First of all, a lot of enthusiasm for radio.  If not, at the end of the Meeting you will leave with a lot of enthusiasm for radio!!! as well as a desire to become more familiar with radio, radio listening and DXing.  Items that you should not forget, and if you do forget them, no problem; you’ll get more.

  • Radio equipment:  A receiver, whatever you have, digital or analog, of any brand, but it should be portable and secure.  It’s exciting to get to know the equipment that we use to listen to far-away stations.  (Radio-tape recorders, portable radios, transceivers, communications receivers, scanners, solar-powered radios, battery-powered, tube receivers, galena radios, antique radios, etc., etc. with AM, FM, LW, TV, VHF, UHF, etc. and of course not to forget our beloved shortwave!!!)

  • Antennas, as necessary to set up your DX station, or to show it.

  • Notebook, pencil or pen. There will be a lot of things to note - addresses, etc.

  • Books, magazines, DX club bulletins.

  •  Printed materials from stations, brochures, magazines, etc.

  • And almost a sin, don’t forget the QSL cards from your collection or your recent QSL’s to enter our 2009 QSL Contest.

  • Digital cameras, but analog ones are sufficient -- something to capture your memories, or a video camera.

  • USB memories (with no viruses), since exchange of information is done with these nowadays.  Your can use them to bring along some samples of your DX catches on USB memories or on CD’s to share your recorded audio.

  • Digital or analog voice recorder.

  • A laptop, if you consider it necessary, is a basic tool.

Whatever you consider necessary for the event -- souvenirs of your region or country, post cards, etc.  Remember that this is also a time for friendship, comradery and getting together.

All of the above is not necessary, but if you have some of it, so much the better.  Remember that our equipment is our treasure, but be careful with it as you travel to the event.
